I wrote 40 “songs”/poems in 1989, nearly a 20% increase from
the previous year. This was the first year in which the majority of my poems were completely
original (rather than derivative), and the first year that poems began to outnumber
“songs”.
Also, significantly, it was the first year I wrote a poem in every single calendar month. This
would be a rare feat for me, only repeating in 2000, 2001, 2015, and 2017.
To my knowledge, it’s also the first time I put a time on a poem in addition to
the date, with Dec. 15’s The Lord Has Made Me
Happy.
