Where were you?
There was a time when
I was feelin’ lonely
There was a time when
I was really feelin’ bad
And no one was standin’ beside me,
There was no one to lend me a hand.
Where were you?
When I just needed someone to hold me tight,
no one was there,
When I needed someone to keep me thru the night,
no one was there
You weren’t there
Where were you, when I needed you most?
Where were you, Whoever you are?
I know there’s someone out there for me,
But I don’t know where they are!
Where were you?
When I was lost in the cold,
and needed a companion,
When I was afraid of love,
and didn’t know what to do,
When I was stumbling to my knees,
and falling on my face,
When I was abandoned,
just tell me — Where were you?
(repeat chorus)
When I was lonely — where were you?
When I was longing — where were you?
When I was alone — where were you?
Next time it happens — what do I do?
(repeat chorus)
Just come out of the dark —
I need you now — where are you?
Just come out of the night —
I want you now — where are you?
Where were you all those empty days?
Where were you deep in the maze?
Where were you while I was lost?
Where were you while I was lost?
(repeat chorus)
At this time, I considered most of my poems as “songs”, and almost always forced a happy ending. This is perhaps the second one of mine in which I allowed the “song” to end without correcting it with a “solution” at the end.
