You weren’t there —
You just weren’t there!
I was looking for you,
I was looking for someone to turn to
I just needed someone to hold me tight
I just needed someone to make it all right
I needed someone to make me feel better,
when I was blue
I needed someone who would
never stop being true,
But You weren’t there,
you just weren’t there
When I needed you so,
when I was so low,
You weren’t there!
I searched the crowds for your face,
You were lost without a single trace,
You were never anywhere I could see,
You just weren’t there for me
I needed someone, anyone,
just to be there
I couldn’t find anyone,
no one who really cared!
(repeat chorus)
I didn’t know what to do,
when I was lost without love
I know I needed you,
the one I been dreamin’ of.
I needed someone, anyone,
just to be there
I couldn’t find anyone,
no one who really cared!
(repeat chorus)
You weren’t there!
At this time, I considered most of my poems as “songs”, and almost always forced a happy ending. This is a rare early one in which I allowed the “song” to end without correcting it with a “solution” at the end. This one was written as an answer to the previous poem’s question.
