used to, I could laugh at a stupid joke
I was just a kid
all play, with no work at all
that’s what I did

Now the scales have shifted
responsibility is placed upon my back
Simple joys of life begin to fade
Worries become a heavy stack

Without a thought of the consequences,
I was able to have a little fun
Now, my brain is burdened by forethoughts
of what may become

I know life is serious, and we need to think
but we also need a little joy, so we don’t sink

Lord, give me that joy, that comes
    from you, only you
God, bend my lips into a smile,
    something only you can do

Remove my worries, carry my load
Give me joy and a smile, to carry up the road.
