A Man Dying

Walking down the road, I saw a man dying
Walking down the road, I reached out my hand
Walking down the road, I saw that I was dying
Walking down the road, I reached out my hand

I was on that road to hell
I knew I needed someone's help
Jesus was the only one with answers for me
So I reached up my hand and sought His face
I saw His face
I saw His face

I was the man lying on the road
I needed more than what I could do for me
I needed life on the inside of my heart
Then Jesus came inside of me
Inside of me
Inside of me

The first four lines were scribbled at an earlier time. The rest came when I attempted to apply the words to a lyricless song written by friends Rusty Porter (now deceased), Matthew Perry, and Johnny Aronis, who were trying to start a band. The double-entendre of the last three lines was lost on me until I was much older.
