moist was the blood found
on the frozen ground     in a small amount
steam rising
the vultures disappointed hover still uncertain
of the outcome
their prize got away
alive one more day now he stops to pray
not smiling
people talking problems walking not another one
what is the sum
the wind comes sweeping o’er the plain
and the waving man in meditation stands
looking over his shoulder at the dwindling liquid scent
time steals every moon that walks     and venus laughs
uncanny crows hide from hunters stalking balking caulking
sealing each leak
whispers at noon, the scratching wheezing throaty engine
communicates     a youth spurned     heads are turned
and waldo sighs packs his smoking pipe
the legend unlearned as leaves are burned
sips from an ancient bottle mysterious
golden is the night when false love wavers
favors another one this time
that’s my worry but i’m picking through it
thwarted are the arsonist-demons who would engulf
the hungry maggots
unmended cloak drops and rots on the spot he stands
a healed man strong and looks forward into the
dawn     a new pain is gone
