LISTEN

From across the potholed and pitted street
You listened to me cry out my warning
You shook your head, your hair flailing in the wind
Cupping a hand to your ear in confusion
I shrugged and watched disaster overtake you
What could I do?
You could have heard if you wanted to
But I am not responsible for your choices
I am only accountable for my own
But don’t feel too horribly badly
I never listened to you either
