Where I Am Now

Lonely, able
Self-fulfilling fables
Laying all the cards upon the table

Ever-mindful, ever-cautious
Smart, seeking, and nauseous
Rolling, rocking
Punching, socking
Needing, looking, asking, knocking

Web-caught and trapped
Weak, weary, sapped
Checking the bets
thoughts of folding
Hold the damn phone
he’s still holding

Against all odds
Fighting the sods
Somehow, upon their silvery luck he trods

Rising from rubble
Looking for trouble
Bursting apart the pessimists’ bubble

Scarred and shaken
Bleeding but not taken
The Strength in his soul begins to waken

Checking the opposition
but still holding
Hold the goddamn phone
he’s not folding
