Friends “Forever”?

We said we’d be friends forever
We said nothing could take that away
But Time is a cruel slum lord
He will always make us pay
Now I’m a different person
And, I assume, so are you
I don’t know just where you live
And have no idea what it is you do
So I guess “forever” is over now
Even tho’ I still remember what we had
And although those memories are good ones
They somehow serve to make me sad
