I'd Rather Have The Memory

Sometimes, when it gets quiet here,
Here inside my head
And I think about all those tears
For you that I shed
It’s been so long since I held you
Since I felt your love
But I know I can never forget you
Yes, life is rough

Maybe that’s all I’ll ever have
Those precious memories
And thank God I forgot the rest
— the stressful moments —

I wish I could hold you now,
but only like I remember it
That’s why I don’t pursue you:
‘Cause I know that the reality of
your presence would chafe at me

So I’ll gladly take the memory
Where you’re warm and soft
And caring, and everything works out
Yes, I’d rather have the memory

Than you
