Late Summer Lament

Midnight blackened shoulders
Still sweating in sultry summer
Darkness brings no relief
Memory cannot retrieve
Chilly days of yore
Hollow eyes under sunburnt skies
Faltering steps
And skin that sweating wets
Bury me in a mountain river
And wash me in the snow
