She’ll Never

I stand at her door
With my tears in my hands
Hear her cryin’ inside
‘Cause we never had a chance
I remember when we met
In the middle of the night
She was lookin’ good
And it all felt so right
She motioned me over
And asked me to dance
My eyes were on her body
My mind was in her pants

Now it’s cold where I stand
On her porch outside
Watchin’ noon-time traffic
And wishin’ I could hide
She’ll never (never) be the same
She’ll try to forget my name
And now I can’t hide my shame
There’s no question that I’m to blame
   She’ll never, no never
   She’ll never be the same

All the good I did her
Makes no difference now
All she sees is the pain
And how I broke my vow
So I went to the bar
Held a drink in my hands
Saw her cryin’ in her chair
Wishin’ for one last dance
So then I followed her home
Met her at her place
She met me with a smile
And she slapped me in my face

Now it’s cold where I stand
On her porch outside
Shiv’rin’ through the morning
And wishin’ I could hide
She’ll never (never) be the same
She’ll try to forget my name
And now I can’t hide my shame
There’s no question that I’m to blame
   She’ll never, no never
   She’ll never be the same

It’s my fault this time
She’s just the victim of my crime
Shot down in her prime
It’s my fault — this time

She’ll never (never) be the same
She’ll try to forget my name
And now I can’t hide my shame
There’s no question that I’m to blame
   She’ll never, no never
   She’ll never be the same
