If My Dreams

If my dreams could come true
I’d live by the sea with you
My only bad habit would be staring into your eyes
As we lie on the sand in the shifting tides
That fathomless salty blue-green sea would be your soul
And the rocks of safety would be your arms to hold
If my dreams could come true

I would teach you the mysteries of the universe
In my dream there would be no pain, no curse
And the lights on the waters would twinkle in your eyes
I would tell you I love you, and you would not lie
If my dreams could come true

You would not complain, because all would be right
And I would not search out the pleasures of the night
Loving you would be my innocence, my precious dear
And we would find no reason, no cause for tears
If only my dreams could come true.
