Waking Up Again

Another layer breaks away
The shell that had held me
Another chip chips away
The trip that felled me

Will I stand again?
I always do
After breaking me
After meeting you

The road was winding
And partly on fire
Now I’m waking up again
Feeling my desire

Feeling stronger now
Not so used
Forgetting the substances
That I abuse

Only to rise up in the smoke
Left from the battle
Another survivor I am
And I beat death’s rattle

Shake loose the chains
Reaching for the skies
Another miserable nightmare
Withers and dies
