Scientists I
once made fun of
Have since put out a ton of
Information that’s difficult to deny
Evolution’s evidence
The details make so much sense
And we’re pumping death into our living sky
Yet some still choose to believe
Writings on pressed pithy leaves
When only the Sun’s travels measured the day
Old stories that were conceived
Legends weren’t to be believed
Faith in them has led us all too far astray
I once lived wearing blinders
Praising keepers not finders
Until the Truth forced mental revolution
If I may mount a defense,
My faith was my hindrance, but
Information will beget a solution
We can’t drink the saltwater
It’s hot and getting hotter
Let’s lie back and let it burn us all away
Or stop avoiding questions
And start making suggestions
To make an Earth where we all can breathe and stay
For an ounce of prevention
Started paying attention
To change the way you and I live, breathe and plan
It’s time to stop ignoring
Chemicals we’re outpouring
And the way we treat our future fellow man
The first three lines popped into my head on Jan. 28, 2013, and I fiddled for an hour that night to come up with the next three lines. I let it stew for a week and a half before brainstorming for the rest.
