They say to become wise, you must number your days aright
I counted more than fifteen thousand as I write this tonight
A third of a million hours spent breathing in and out
Twenty-two million minutes, or something thereabout
One-point-three billion seconds that I have been alive
For a third of them, I slept, though I still daily revive
The first line is a reference to
Psalm 90:12 (original NIV). Most
versions say simply "number our days"; only the old NIV adds the word “aright”.
I wrote this on the 15,444th day of my life — that comes out to about
1,334,361,600 seconds.
