The High Road

The high road, it ain’t easy
It may not be the one for me
Consideration and kindly acts
A recipe for certain fatigue

I’m a human with emotions
Chemicals flow in my veins
No training to react well
To the deepest aching pains

The high road, more like a goal
Some place I’d sure like to be
But so many exits go downward
Check the lowest lanes for me

This poem refers to my recent stated motto: “I can do better”, and my code of conduct, which begins with “be kind”. It also, in the final line, refers to my 2000 poem, Lowest Road.
