So Glad

We woke at dusk, the seething sun subsides
Exit dusty tunnels — surviving because we hide
Roam the ruins by moonlight, searching for a scrap
So glad we didn’t give in to that socialist crap

“Just a market hiccup” — they say that it’s true
But it’d be nice to have food and doctors too
Refugee camps overflow because nobody gives a dam
So glad we wasted no effort on that global warming scam

Creeping in the shadows ‘round capitalist compounds
Collecting leftovers and used coffee grounds
Hiding our children ‘cause the rulers are biblical
So glad we believed in free market principles

Oh the air it grew hotter, and marvels filled the skies
As the coastlands moved inward, we fled for our lives
The country that we’d known, changed before our eyes
So glad we all fell for the conservative pile of lies

They said they wanted freedom, for no one but themselves
They said if you are brown or gay, then you can go to hell
They said that oil money was good enough to eat
So glad so few voted, so they didn’t have to cheat

Began June 1; finished three days later.
