Senators and charlatans
Look about the same to me
Presidents and beggars
Smell about the same to me
There is no Jesus Christ
Or fucking fairy godmother
Just a promise in one hand
Yanking cash with the other
Electing snake oil salesmen
To cure a self-made disease
Eliminates the possibility
Of diagnosing our true unease
You don’t have to be a genius
To see how divided we’ve become
Get in line with a cross on a sign
Or list your fiction as “none”
He’s smarter than the generals
Has the best words and very stable
Skips intelligence briefings to
Get “facts” from “news” on cable
Senators and charlatans
Look about the same to me
Presidents and beggars
Smell about the same to me
Feral swine and their victims
Bleed about the same you see
Angry gods and fairy tales
Equally worthless to me
I was listening to “Use Your Illusion II” before and during composition of this poem. I think the tune of “Locomotive” was in my head as I wrote.
